What is Rerk? Auspicious timing, explained
Rerk is an auspicious time to start something, worked out from Thai astrology and the lunar calendar.
What it is
Rerk (from the Sanskrit muhurta) is a chosen moment to begin: opening a shop, signing a contract, moving an office, starting a launch. Astrologers work it out from the Thai lunar calendar and the positions of the planets, often down to the minute.
The calendar matters too. Buddhist holy days (Wan Phra) and other days in the Thai calendar are ones many people avoid for new beginnings.
How owners use it
In Thailand it is common for a business to open, sign or move at a chosen Rerk, such as 9:09 in the morning, and to keep launches off days the calendar marks as poor for new starts.
